Can you believe we get to reside in such a warm and comfortable home! Yes, it's on Long Island - it's like being on vacation all-year long.

A lovely array of colorful flowers decorates a picket fence by the front gate of a private home in Long Beach Island, NJ.

Advice from Val Allocco
Staged 2 Sell NY:
1) The house can use taller shrubs under the window with the flowerbox.
2) Add seasonal flowers to the flower box for year-round color and interest
3) The shrubs under the window with the shutters are too rectangular. Remove and replace with a few round shrubs and ornamental grasses. Plant mums, ornamental kale and winter pansies in foreground. Define the bedding and add mulch or wood chips.
4) Prune (thin out) the tree on the right side of the yard.

Advice from Val Allocco
Staged 2 Sell NY:
Aside from overgrown shrub on left side of house and lack of plantings on right corner and side of the house, this house looks good and has some color. The owner claims that she would like to give the landscaping a 'country style'. To do that I would suggest the following:
1) Remove the bushes under smaller windows and replace with some ornamental grasses, a 4-5 ft tall evergreen at the corner of the house, and lots of perennials (taller plants in the back and smaller plants in the foreground. Be sure to continue the plantings around to the side of the house. Define flower beds with professional edging and wood chips.
2) Consider painting the front door to match the shutters and add a wreath.

Advice from Val Allocco
Staged 2 Sell NY:
1) House needs shrubbery - about 3 ft tall under small window to right of door, then 4 ft evergreens to left of window, and small shrubs under the window on right side of house. Add small shrubs in front of those and then add a third row with seasonal plantings (mums, ornamental kale and winter pansies for Fall and Winter)
2) Define beds with edging and wood chips
3) Consider painting front door a 'brick red' for a bit of drama (and 'good fortune' according to Feng Shui principles!)

Advice from Val Allocco
Staged 2 Sell NY:
1) Left side of house needs a 4-5 ft. tall evergreen to add interest and soften lines.
2) Plant a 'climbing' plant to cover trellis.
3) Define flower beds and plant colorful seasonal plants (mums, ornamental kale and winter-hardy pansies for Fall and Winter.
4) Place a planter with Mums at the front door.
5) Lawn needs to be fed and maintained so it will be green.

Advice from Val Allocco
Staged 2 Sell NY:
1) Large bushes in front of window need to be trimmed and shaped.
2) Flower beds lack definition - they need to be weeded, plantings trimmed and thinned out. Add color with seasonal flowers (ornamental kale and winter pansies for the winter)
3) Add planters with colorful flowers on either side of front door.
4) Lawn needs professional care to reverse brown appearance.
5) Can't see the walkway, but make sure that it is clean and defined.
6) Always keep blinds & shades up and curtains open when showing the house. Make certain windows are 'squeeky' clean!

Advice from Val Allocco
Staged 2 Sell NY:
1) There is a lot of white - fence, trim, door, garage door, sidewalk...needs color. Suggest adding a large planter to left of front door and fill with tall grass, colorful seasonal plants (for Fall add mums, ornamental kale, winter pansies).
2) Paint front door a 'brick red' and add shutters (in same color) to front windows.
3) Trim large bush next to garage to half of its present size.
4) Plant ornamental grass on each side at end of driveway - perhaps even creating small flower beds.

Advice from Val Allocco
Staged 2 Sell NY

1) Bushes in front are overgrown...you can't see the front windows or door. Trim & reshape- especially the bush near front door & in front of the red maple.
2) Lacking color...add mums, ornamental kale, winter-hardy pansies to flower bed and in a planter by front door.
3) The right side (window with air conditioner) of the house does not balance with the other side. Add some green bushes/plantings and 'pop' in some color with the addition of fall/winter annuals (mums, kale, pansies).
